Chris started his career in construction at the early age of the age 15 when he helped his father
renovate their farm house that has been in the Walter family
over 75 years. Since that first project, the entire construction process from ideas, to paper,
to reality has been his life's passion. His early years of formal education were concentrated in
building and drafting classes. He then obtained a Bachelors of Science Degree in Construction
Management while working full time for a commercial general contractor. Upon graduation,
Chris secured employment with a national contractor for Arby's Restaurants. Chris traveled
extensively throughout the country renovating and building new facilities for Arby's Inc. With
an opportunity to gain knowledge in hospital construction Chris then found himself as Project eng. for
our local Peninsula Regional Medical Center. In 1994, at the age of 32 Chris started up CMSI
with the emphasis on bringing field experience and knowledge to the design and estimating
tables. CMSI has been successful in part by his steady and constant commitment to customer
satisfaction. The strong work ethic that was instilled in Chris in his childhood on a 500 acre farm in mid-Michigan is truly evident in his
commitment to CMSI and its customers.
KARIN M. WALTER, VICE-PRESIDENT
Karin started her career in the construction industry soon after graduation from high
school with her employment at Bechtel Corporation. After a transfer, to one of its corporate
offices, she decided to further her education in the field by obtaining an Associates of Science
Degree in Construction Engineering and further her experience by working in the Campus
Central Supplies Office which supplied all repair and maintenance materials for the entire
campus. Upon graduation, Karin then took employment with a national contracting firm that
specialized in waste water treatment facilities on the Delmarva Peninsula. To further her
knowledge in the industry, she was also employed with national contractors such as Whiting-Turner,
Costello Construction, and MR/WALLACE/Norflor Corporation, on high profile local
projects such as Wor-Wic Community College Campus, and the Chesapeake Rehabilitation
Hospital. Karin, and equal partner, started CMSI who's main goal was to
offer her vast field experience in the paper and record keeping abilities to its clients. Her vast
experience in the fields of submittal, contracts, purchase orders, shipping orders, subcontractors
and suppliers, and reducing overhead cost has enabled CMSI to experience a steady growth race of over 60% per year.
Along with a construction business, Karin and her husband are both proud of their 3 daughters
ages 9, 5 and 1 who have adapted well to the construction life.
